1840herbertWithout fuss or fan-fair, debate or public outcry, this simple, unassuming home on 1849 Herbert Ave, fell to the wrecking ball today. This home was the pride and joy of it’s owners  providing shelter, memories and family gatherings  for over 60 years.

Where was the outrage, the protests, the neighbor-against-neighbor fight that was common with the Hulbert home demolition on 1547 Yale Ave last week? Doesn’t this little gem deserve it? Was the other home just more grand? Is this not part of the historic nature of the neighborhood?

I would love to hear your thoughts/comments…

Each and every teardown in the Yalecrest neighborhood adversly impacts the historic character of the neighborhood. We care! We care! 20 teardownss in 10 years is too much!

  2. Lisette,

Thanks for your comments! We have to find some kind of balance between preservation and accommodation. A lot of these older homes don’t fit well with the needs of today’s larger families. I think there are a few examples of new architecture that fits in nicely with the historic nature of the neighborhood. I guess new today is historically significant in 50 years, it’s part of the fluidity of life to renew and regenerate.
